Brooms

We are thrilled to be making custom hand-mand brooms/besoms at Duomo Gardens! While engaging with us, each student will learn the basics of broom craft and culture. These besoms are beautiful pieces of folk art and a wonderful introduction to traditional craft.
We’ll make a variety of broom using broomcorn, african grasses and agave fibers etc….
Broom making indeed holds a rich history and is an art form that has been passed down through generations. The craft not only produces functional household tools but also embodies cultural heritage, artistic expression and the joy of handcrafting something useful.
Broom making's time-honored tradition has not been lost to modern utility. Instead, it demonstrates the beauty of blending age-old techniques with contemporary needs. While brooms are now mass-produced for efficiency, handcrafted brooms maintain their allure for those who appreciate the craftsmanship and cultural significance behind each piece.
Preserving the craft of broom making is essential, as it represents a tangible link to our ancestors and their way of life. By continuing this tradition, we pay homage to the past and keep alive the knowledge and skills that have been refined over centuries.
Broom making is more than just creating a household tool; it is an art form that embodies cultural heritage, creativity, and functionality. The dedication of broom makers to their craft ensures that this ancient tradition remains alive and cherished in the modern world.
In some indigenous cultures, brooms are seen as sacred objects that facilitate emotional and spiritual healing. The act of sweeping is thought to dispel sorrow, grief, and negative emotions, clearing the way for positive energies and renewal. Broom making is seen as a meditative and soulful practice, allowing the craftsperson to infuse the broom with intentions of healing and well-being.
